You definitely had to watch the first one and the plot was a bit confusing.

Full disclosure - I haven't seen the first DoT. Had I, this film probably would've been more enjoyable. The plot is overly complicated but the film is otherwise well done for a January release.
There’s not much to say about Werewolves. It’s a B-movie. I’m not certain how this one made it to the big screen, but good for the filmmakers. That said, it fared relatively well for what it is and is not bringing up the rear in my 2024 reviews.

There are corny one-liners, like “bite me” and “come fetch,” but there are no ROTFL moments. Some of its humor comes by accident – because it’s so ridiculous, it made me laugh. While it does use CGI, I was impressed with the number of practical effects in Werewolves. Now, are they awesome practical effects? No, but the costume designers had fun with it. Many of the action sequences are cheesy, especially with the use of what amounts to people running around in werewolf Halloween costumes. The acting wasn’t great – I mean, Frank Grillo is the lead. Clearly, the film was not made for a theatrical release, but I did take issue with the number of shots that were out of focus. I don’t know enough about filmmaking to know if that’s the cinematographer’s fault or if it’s the quality of equipment used due to budget constraints.

Overall, Werewolves is an okay film if you’re watching at home on the Syfy Channel. It’s not made for the big screen, so don’t rush out to see it before it goes away.
