Violet Gates, a widowed mother recovering from her abusive husband Blake’s suicide, begins dating again. She leaves her son Toby with her sister Jen and heads to an upscale restaurant, Palate, to meet photographer Henry Campbell, whom she’s been chatting with online for months. While waiting for Henry, Violet meets bartender Cara, pianist Phil, and fellow diners Richard, who’s on a blind date, and Connor. Suddenly, Violet begins receiving “Digi-Drops”—anonymous meme messages that grow increasingly threatening. Once Henry arrives, they’re seated by the window and served by a new waiter, Matt. As more unsettling drops arrive, Henry helps Violet investigate, suspecting someone nearby is behind them. The situation escalates when the anonymous sender instructs Violet to check her home security cameras.
Violet witnesses a masked gunman beat Jen unconscious and lock Toby in his room on the security cameras. The perp messages Violet, demanding she not alert anyone or try to leave, otherwise Toby will be killed. Violet realizes she is being watched by the restaurant's security cameras. Violet is told to retrieve the camera from Henry's bag and destroy his SD card. Violet discovers that Henry, who works for the city mayor, has photographic evidence of embezzlement. Henry grows suspicious of Violet and is about to leave, but Violet encourages him to stay, opening up about her trauma from her relationship with her husband. Violet is instructed to retrieve poison from the bathroom and kill Henry.
Violet suspects Connor and confronts him but finds no proof. Refusing to kill Henry, she secretly passes Phil a note about the hostage situation. Phil collapses and dies from poison while attempting to leave. The user mocks Violet’s failure and demands she kill Henry. Violet orders shots, spikes Henry's, but panics as he prepares to drink, causing a mess at the table. As Henry cleans up, Cara checks on Violet and mentions that Richard has been watching her table all night. Violet brings Richard the shots, and he reveals himself as her tormentor. Richard says Henry is to testify against the mayor, and that he is going to kill Henry and make Violet look guilty, as many already believe she killed Blake. Henry drinks the shot, but as Richard gloats, Violet reveals she poisoned Richard's dessert, not Henry’s shot. Realizing he was double-crossed, Richard orders the killing of Toby and Jen. Richard tries to shoot Jen, but Henry steps in the way and is shot instead. A window is broken during the struggle with both Richard and Henry falling. Richard falls to his death while Henry saves Violet.
Violet uses Henry's car to drive to her house. While Jen and Toby attempt to flee their captor, Jen is shot. Toby finds the gun and gives it to Jen, who shoots the captor dead, who is revealed to be the maintenance worker that visited her house. Later, Violet visits Henry and Jen in the hospital. The mayor is under investigation, and Jen pranks Violet and Henry before they plan a second date.
