Superman was fun and made me happy. I found the humor not witty, but silly (in a good way).

There's lots to unpack with Superman. It's far from a masterpiece and I was hoping for more, but it's endearing.
I’ve got so much to say about Superman that I’m going to list it this time:

- Stylistically, it screams Guardians of the Galaxy – which makes sense since it’s a James Gunn feature. That said, many of the gags are the same, which at times cheapens Superman.

- It’s bright and beautiful. Everything about this film is pleasing to watch. The bright look lends to the traditional, up-beat Superman schtick. This contrasts with the flat tone and gloomy feel to the Henry Cavill-led Zac Snyder feature, Man of Steel. I’ll qualify that I enjoyed MoS, but the upbeat tone of 2025’s installment just feels right.

- The humor tries but isn’t top tier. I expected it to be infectious and have a full theater laughing in unison – but it did not.

- There are TONS of cameos – many of which you won’t catch because they’re voiceovers. Several come from the MCU – and many of those directly from Guardians of the Galaxy.

- Wendell Pierce is an amazing actor and is criminally underutilized as Perry White. Who knows? Maybe he just wasn’t available for more – but I sure wish they had figured that one out.

- David Corenswet does fine as Superman. We see a more human take on this character.

- Nicholas Hoult does just as well with Lex Luthor, but I think he shows a little too much emotion at times.

- Superman and Lex’s best interactions are discussion about the dog.

- Speaking of the dog, superpowered Krypto adds some humor, but is done at the expense of being 100% CGI.

- Marth and Jonathan Kent are, well, a little too hokey for my taste. I realize they’re middle-America farmland people, the performance is just a little too contrived.

- Mr. Terrific is, well, terrific! This was the best B character.

- Nathan Fillion’s egocentric Green Lantern Guy Gardner was solid.

- We get a quick glimpse of Milly Alcock’s Supergirl – and I’m skeptical.

- I don’t get the public’s hyper-politicization of this film. I guess people will read into it what they want to.

All of this said, I think people hoping for something positive in the DC film world can move their “eyes up here”. Although it’s not short on flaws and is far from a masterpiece, Superman is an entertaining film and brings “hope” for the future.
